Commissioning in the Army Reserves and completing a degree in Food Technology at the University of Queensland, he worked in the Food Industry as a manufacturing manager for 10 years at Food Spectrum Pty Ltd and served as an Infantry Officer at 25th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment (25 RQR) before transferring between forces to 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR).

In 1997 he began running a 24 hour roadhouse, BP 7 Knights in Tenterfield NSW before buying his first business Countrywide Music Distribution in 1999.  Previous owner Allan Gibson, had a small business supplying roadhouses in New South Wales and Victoria; over the next three years the business grew into a national music distribution chain supplying roadhouses in every Mainland State and Territory.  After successfully establishing the business and looking for more challenges, Countrywide was sold to business partner Trevor Thompson who later rebranded as Impulse Entertainment.

That challenge was horticulture in China with start up business Australian Horticultural Industries Pty Ltd operating a tree farm in Foshan, Guangdong Province followed by a marketing office in Chongqing central China.  Successfully bidding on a local government project to build an Arboretum in the city’s botanical gardens was the highlight of this enterprise.  The business is still in operation today operating in the commercial landscape maintenance sector after acquiring Jensen International Pty Ltd and trading as AHI Jensen in South East Queensland.

Married with three children Trevor lives in Brisbane with his family, enjoys music, ballet, cricket and football with his children, watching most team sports, especially at live venues and volunteering in numerous community organisations including his local RSL, Kenmore-Moggill Sub-branch, as a Director on the board of  The Royal Australian Regiment Association (RARA) and advisor to board of the Defence Force Welfare Association (DFWA).

Today, Trevor’s passion is the Small Business Foundation, allowing him to talk with small business owners, help them get the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the strength of our economy, and advocating for a competitive market in which small business operators delivering excellent value to their customers have the opportunity to flourish.
